乗り継ぎでたった1日しかいなかったけれど、魅力がいっぱいのイスタンブール。今度は郊外もゆっくり行ってみたいと思える旅でした！
I was only there for a day due to a layover, but Istanbul was full of charm. It was a trip that made me want to take my time exploring the suburbs next time!
今回、日本からイギリスへ行く際にTurkish Airlinesを利用して、イスタンブール空港を経由しました。なんと、公式サイトで予約すると、乗り継ぎの間に無料でツアーがついてくるTour Istanbulというサービスがあるのです！乗り継ぎの時間によって、半日ツアーや夕方からのツアーなど様々ありますが、実際に行ってきた終日ツアーを紹介します。（混雑や状況によってルートの変更があります）
This time, I traveled from Japan to the UK via Istanbul Airport using Turkish Airlines. Surprisingly, if you book through their official website, they offer a free tour during your layover with a service called Tour Istanbul! Depending on your layover time, there are various tour options, such as half-day tours or evening tours. Here, I’ll introduce the full-day tour that I actually joined! (The route may change depending on crowd levels and other circumstances.)

まずは朝食へ｜Starting off with breakfast
朝の5時半くらいにイスタンブールへ到着。入国審査を通過したら、１階にあるTurkish Airlines Hotel Deskでツアーの申し込みをします。事前予約などはできず、人数制限もあるので早めに行動するのをお勧めします。早速人が並んでましたが、半日ツアーの人が多かった印象で、すんなり申し込めました！
出発の8時半まで時間があるので、歯を磨いたり着替えたり両替したりしてたら、集合時間になって皆で大型バスに乗り込みます。結構広くて、思ってたより綺麗で快適でした！
I arrived in Istanbul around 5:30 AM. After passing through immigration, I headed to the Turkish Airlines Hotel Desk on the first floor to sign up for the tour. Reservations cannot be made in advance, and there is a participant limit, so I recommend acting quickly. There was already a line, but most people seemed to be signing up for the half-day tour, so I was able to register smoothly! Since there was still time before our 8:30 AM departure, I brushed my teeth, changed clothes, and exchanged some money. Before I knew it, it was time to gather, and we all boarded a large bus. It was quite spacious, and to my surprise, it was cleaner and more comfortable than I had expected!
初めて見るトルコの街並みに目を引かれながら、朝食のレストランへ。一緒に座ったやチュニジア出身の大学生と仲良くなったりお喋りしながら、オリーブ多めの朝食。
As I took in the sights of Turkey’s cityscape for the first time, we headed to a restaurant for breakfast. I ended up sitting with a university student from Tunisia, and we quickly became friends, chatting while enjoying a breakfast with plenty of olives.
ちなみに、イスラム教徒は猫を大切にすることから、本当にあちこちに猫がいてすごく人懐こいです！チュニジアの子が、「プスプスプス」と空気が入ったような音を出すと猫が近づいてくると教えてくれて、本当に近寄ってきていました！
By the way, since Islam teaches kindness toward cats, they are everywhere in Istanbul—and they’re incredibly friendly! The student from Tunisia taught me that if you make a sound like “pss pss pss”, almost like air escaping, cats will come closer. And sure enough, it worked—they actually approached us!
ヒッポドローム｜Hippodrome: German Fountain
ヒッポドロームからツアースタート。こちらは、ローマ帝国から運ばれたオベリスクと、ドイツ皇帝から寄付された「ドイツの泉」。
The tour started from the Hippodrome. Here, you can see the obelisk that was brought over from the Roman Empire, along with the “German Fountain,” which was a donation from the German Emperor.
トプカプ宮殿｜Topkapi Palace
音声ガイドをつけながら、世界遺産のトプカプ宮殿で自由時間。地中海に面した宮殿は、当時の豪華な生活が蘇りそうなほど美しく残っています。
With an audio guide in hand, I had some free time at the World Heritage site, the Topkapi Palace. The palace, facing the Mediterranean, is so beautifully preserved that it feels like the luxurious lifestyle of that time could come to life again.
エジプトのオベリスク｜Egyeptian Oblisk
エジプトの偉業を称えエジプトで作られたオベリスクは世界あちこちにあるようですが、その一つがイここにありました。オベリスクとは、ギリシャ語で「小さく先がとがった柱」を意味する「オベリスコス」が由来だそう。
Obelisks, which were erected to honor Egypt’s great achievements, can be found all around the world. One of them was here in Istanbul. The term “obelisk” comes from the Greek word “obeliskos,” which means “a small, pointed pillar.”
お昼休憩｜Lunch time
イスラム教はハラールなので豚肉は食べません。チキン美味しかった！ちなみにこのあと、あの有名なトルコアイスも食べました！（声かけられお店の人も面白いですが、現地にしてはかなり高く取られるのでご注意を）
Since Islam follows halal practices, pork is not eaten, but the chicken was delicious! By the way, after that, I had the famous Turkish ice cream! The shopkeeper was funny, but be careful—it’s quite expensive compared to local prices.
グランドバザール｜Grand Bazar
香辛料やらブランドショップやお土産など、なんでも揃う大市場！アクセサリーやかわいい小物など安く手に入るので、お土産にお勧めです！ぼったくりには注意が必要ですが、初めは高く言ってくるらしいので、値切り交渉に挑戦してみては？
The Grand Bazaar is a market where you can find everything—spices, brand-name shops, souvenirs, and more! You can get accessories and cute little items at affordable prices, making it a great place for souvenirs. Be cautious of overpricing, though—vendors may initially quote high prices, so why not try your hand at bargaining?
ブルーモスク｜Blue Mosque
最初に行く予定でしたが、混雑のため最後にやってきたハイライトのブルーモスク！近くで見ると本当に青く、女性はヒジャーブを巻いて中に入ります。上手くできなかったのでチュニジアの子が巻いてくれました！
It was originally planed to visit first, but due to the crowds, the highlight of the trip, the Blue Mosque, was saved for last! Up close, it really is so blue, and women must wear a hijab to enter. I struggled to wrap mine, so the student from Tunisia helped me with it!
カメラでは捉えられないほど、天井は言葉を失う美しさでした。。神聖な場所でお祈りをしている方もたくさんいました。
The ceiling was so breathtakingly beautiful that it couldn’t be fully captured by a camera… I was at a loss for words. Many people were there, praying in this sacred space.
アヤソフィア｜Ayasofya Mosque
残念ながら時間がなく行けませんでした、！が、このツアーだと外から見るだけのプランなので、次回はゆっくりきて中も見たいと思います！その時はここにアップデートしようと。
Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to visit, but since this tour only offered an outside view, I’m hoping to return next time and explore the inside at a more leisurely pace! When I do, I’ll make sure to update it here.

まとめ
正直、乗り換えでここまで楽しめるとは思っていませんでした！無料でバスで回ってくれて食事までついて、こんな有意義な乗り換え時間あるかと思うくらい、イスタンブールの魅力を知れて本当に良かったです。注意点は、日本のツアーのように人数数えたり全員を待ったりしないことです。集合時間と場所をちゃんと聞いていないと次の目的地に進んでしまうので、置いてかれて飛行機にも乗り遅れたりしないようにご注意を！
To be honest, I never expected to enjoy a layover this much! A free bus tour to explore the city, meals included—it was such a meaningful way to spend my layover, and I got to experience so much of Istanbul’s charm. One thing to note: unlike Japanese tours, they don’t do thorough headcounts or wait around for everyone. If you don’t pay close attention to the meeting time and location, the tour will move on without you! Make sure you don’t get left behind and miss your flight!
